About Thornaby Town Council

Thornaby Town Council was created in 1995 to represent the people of Thornaby providing both a voice for the town and also a range of local services.

Councillors are all volunteers and are elected for a four year term. Thornaby Town Council has relatively few responsibilities as far as public property is concerned, but we take our responsibilities seriously and try to do our best for you within the resources available to us. Full Council meetings are held every six weeks; with the Environment and Finance Committees meeting in between. We have an active Environment Committee who works tirelessly for the good of the community. Issues that would affect the community are discussed and action points agreed. Planning applications are scrutinised to ensure they fall within the realms of the Local Plan.

We organise various events throughout the year with Thornaby Show being ever popular. The Remembrance Sunday Parade and Battle of Britain service, where we remember the fallen despite the diminishing number of veterans are always well attend.

We also have a Finance Committee who keeps a watchful eye on all expenditure along with assessing applications for funding from the Community Chest Fund. The Community Chest Fund is a grant scheme providing financial support for community organisations. Here at Thornaby Town Council we recognise and support the valuable contribution made by the voluntary sector to the well-being of the community. Anyone wishing to apply for a grant needs to contact Thornaby Town Council whereby an application form will be issued.
